The True Meaning of Success

The True Meaning of Success

The definition of success for each person can be different. But for me success is about balance. About how we can find balance in family, spiritual, health, work and financial aspects. When life starts to become unbalanced, we will sacrifice something. For example, there is a father who is very rich but he doesn’t have time for his family. Finally, when he was old, he was alone without his children accompanying him. Why? Because his children imitated him in working hard until finally when he was an adult he didn’t have time for his father. But the meaning of success must be complemented by passion. Passion here is something we are willing to do even if we don’t get paid. Success will then be reflected when this passion turns out to be priced by other people. However, passion still has to return to the concept of balance. Don’t deify your passion until you lose balance in other aspects of your life.

However, the meaning of success can sometimes be very difficult to understand. Especially when we are caught in the comparison trap, namely the trap of comparing ourselves with other people. Like at Harvard, many students who study at this university feel they don’t deserve to be there. Feeling like you’re not that talented, smart, or rich enough to study there. This is what is called impostor syndrome, a psychological disease that makes us doubt our abilities. It doesn’t only happen in countries far away. In our country there are no less people who feel less than others. Especially with a culture of low self-esteem that seems to require us to be people who cannot recognize our own abilities. Indeed, there may be one factor in ourselves that is less than someone else’s, making us look like we are losing if we compare just that one factor. If you want to compare, you should compare one package of yourself because in fact you can still compare it. Each person must assess and look deeper into himself to find what he has and others do not.

Actually, what is the definition of success?

It doesn’t just stop there. This film is also full of nationalist messages. About how to actually love this nation. Love is actually a choice and to prove it you don’t need to talk a lot. Actions can prove it. Act on it. We have the choice to love the nation with the work we are doing now. Whatever the job, as long as the big goal is to make Indonesia a better place, it means we prove our love for this country. So our boss is no longer Mr A or Mrs B, but Indonesia. We also hope that the public can see the relevance between the tragedy that occurred during Susi Susanti’s era and current conditions. Diversity issues that corner minorities, issues of anarchy and division that make us lose our love for the country. We hope that this film can spread love for others, especially anyone who is an Indonesian citizen. Whether they are of Chinese, Papuan or Batak descent, if they are Indonesian citizens, they are Indonesians and they have the right and obligation to love this nation.
