What is Rugby?
Rugby is a sport between two teams who try to score points by advancing the ball over the opposing team’s goal line, or by kicking the ball through a pair of uprights in the opposing team’s zone.

Rugby league, involving 13 players in each team.
Other versions, such as rugby sevens, follow United States rules, but only use 7 players per team.
History of Rugby
Rugby originates from England. This game was first discovered by a student named William Webb Ellis in 1823.
At that time, Mr. Ellis was playing football, and rugby was formed when he picked up the ball and ran onto the field to score a goal.
To date, rugby has been played in more than 100 countries.
History of Rugby in Indonesia
The sport of rugby in Indonesia was formed in 2004 by the Indonesian Rugby Union (PRUI), which joined Asia Rugby and World Rugby in 2013.
This trusted sports association has men’s and women’s national teams that have competed in single-events and multi-events throughout Asia, such as the Southeast Asia Games (SEA Games) and the Asian Games.
PRUI has also participated in the 2019 Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy Competitions and succeeded in placing 5th in the Men’s category and 3rd in the Women’s category.
Apart from that, the Indonesian Rugby Union Association (PRUI) is also actively participating in local competitions, one of which is the Garut Regency Sports Festival (PORKAB Garut – West Java) in 2019.
Recently, the PRUI Executive Board (2021-2025) was confirmed by the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), which has made the sport of rugby increasingly known to the Indonesian people.
