Fashion Trends Straight Outta 1999 – Share Lemonade

I’m not just saying this because I lived it, but the 90s was one of the most iconic decades in fashion. From grunge to minimalism, punk to preppy, it was a veritable grab bag of colors, textures and cuts – and the year 1999 was no exception.

It was a weird and wonderful time for https://www.aagallery.id/ fashion. We had Britney and Christina convincing us we could pull off crop tops and low rise jeans (spoiler: we couldn’t). Then Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me reintroduced us to the mod aesthetic in all its go-go booted glory. Oh, and then there were the light industrial goth fashions, à la The Matrix, conveniently made available by your nearest Hot Topic store.

While some trends were mere blips, more than 20 years later, others have managed to worm their way back into our wardrobes. Here’s a taste of some fashion trends that have been fresh since ’99:

  1. Crop tops: These tops came in all forms – spaghetti straps, handkerchief hems, tube tops and more. Good thing 8 Minute Abs was one of the hottest workouts in the 90s!
  2. Wedge and platform sandals: Every woman in the 90s owned a pair of these sandals. You know the ones – black with a platform and/or wedge bottom.
  3. Adidas tracksuit: Today’s athleisure trend can be traced back to the 90s. It didn’t matter if your only exercise was walking between the kitchen and couch – both men and women sported Adidas tracksuits paired with sports slides.
  4. Denim, denim and more denim: For both men and women, denim jeans, jackets, vests, shorts and even shirts were wardrobe staples. And all this denim was best worn all together. Denim jeans topped with a denim shirt? Why not!
  5. Puka shell necklaces: Originally sported by surfers in the 70s, this style of jewelry made its way to teens and young adults across the country in the 90s. Even if you lived nowhere near a beach, it’s likely you still had one of these necklaces.
